A Partial Listing of College and University Theater and Performing Arts Programs in New England
Here is a list of some universities and colleges in New England that offer undergraduate majors and minors in theater and performing arts. These schools offer strong programs in the performing arts, providing both theoretical and practical training in various aspects of theatre. Of course, there are many more programs. The programs below are just a sample of what is offered in the New England region.
DISCLAIMER: The schools below are not listed in any particular order. The NSP does not endorse or recommend any particular program. It is up to the individual using these links to thoroughly investigate each program. The NSP does not offer any advice on any college or university programs. Again, it is up to the individual to do their own due diligence.
Boston University (Massachusetts) - Offers a BFA in Theatre Arts Performance and a minor in Theatre Arts. The program includes a focus on Musical Theatre as well, though not as a separate major or minor.
University of New Hampshire (New Hampshire) - Offers a BA in Theatre with various options, including Acting and Directing, Design and Theatre Technology, Musical Theatre, and more. They also offer minors in Theatre, Dance, and Musical Theatre.
New England College (New Hampshire) - Offers a BA in Theatre, with opportunities for students to participate in productions from their first semester. The program is very hands-on, with a focus on practical experience.
Yale University (Connecticut) - Yale offers a Theater Studies major through its undergraduate program. The major allows students to engage in both theoretical and practical aspects of theater.
Emerson College (Massachusetts) - Emerson is well-known for its performing arts programs, offering majors in Theatre and Performance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Education, among others.
Wesleyan University (Connecticut) - Wesleyan offers a Theater major that combines performance and scholarly research, allowing students to explore both acting and technical aspects of theater production.
Brown University (Rhode Island) - Brown offers a concentration in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, allowing students to focus on various aspects of theater, including acting, directing, playwriting, and design.
Smith College (Massachusetts) - Smith offers a Theater major and minor, with a curriculum that includes performance, design, directing, and playwriting.
